Institute Offers Votive Masses for Pope Benedict
On February 27th and 28th, 2013, Liturgical Institute faculty, students and staff offered the Holy Sacrifice for the Mass for the intentions of Pope Benedict XVI, now Pope Emeritus. Using the Votive Mass for the Pope each day, Liturgical Institute student Fr. Daniel Kassis served as principal celebrant and Br. Ryan Wohlford served as deacon. Using chanted propers from the Votive Mass and the Latin settings of the Ordinary for use during Lenten weekdays, the Masses took place in the Institute's oratory, recently beautifed with a new altar and vestments provided by generous donors to the Institute. With gratitude for Pope Benedict's service, Fr. Kassis urged worshippers to pray for Benedict and for the cardinals who will choose his successor. "Pope Emeritus Benedict has given his entire life in service of the Church both in his witness and his scholarship, and his ideas have influenced my own research immensely," faculty member Dr. Denis McNamara said. "It was a joy to pray for him."
