Retirement and Life after Administration
This
program deals
with the need to preparing for our life and ministry after
we've completed our work in Administration. We invite priests
over 60 to
reflect on certain common experiences
that will surely occupy their time and attention during their
retirement years. In cooperation
with Mr. Alex Becker,
Executive Director of the Priests' Retirement and Mutual Aid
Association, and our Vicars for Senior Priests we will periodically
offer one day programs dealing with some of the concerns of priests
over 60:
- Health
issues: what services are available through the
Archdiocese and how do we obtain them?
- Pension
benefits: what kind of compensation will we receive
after we retire?
- Finding a
place to live: Do I continue to live at the
rectory where I was pastor? Do I move to another rectory?
Do I buy a condo and live alone? Do I move in with a relative? Do
I apply to live at the Bishop Lyne Retirement Home for Priests?
What if I end up in a nursing home? What are the pros and cons of
each living situation? A panel discussion of priests who
represent each of these situations has been proven to be useful in
helping priests make an informed decision on the very important
decision of where to live during the retirement years.
- Personal
identity as a "retired priest". Having spent
many years in administration as a pastor or in a diocesan ministry, a
retired priest is confronted with the transition to the new life of a
"retired priest". What have other priests discovered as helpful
tools to making a successful transition to retirement?
