Art of Pastoring II
The First Year of the Pastorate

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Art of Pastoring II is a series of four programs designed to accompany new pastors through their first year of pastoring.  The course trains new pastors in how to provide leadership in the areas of personnel, finance, education and liturgy.   The Art of Pastoring II seeks to identify the key issues a pastor must be concerned with in each of the four areas of leadership.  A second goal is to introduce the pastor to the principal resource people in the Pastoral Center who can assist him in his ministry.

While it is designed to build on the Art of Pastoring I, a pastor who was appointed outside of the regular yearly schedule can join the Art of Pastoring II already in progress.  He would then take the Art of Pastoring I the following Spring.

Faculty of the course are drawn from bishops and priests who are themselves experienced pastors.  Specialist input comes from the faculty of Mundelein Seminary and the agencies of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center.

The course is offered every year at the Conference Center of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake.  It is required of all first-time pastors.  Any pastor is welcome to attend for his own enrichment.

Only priests who are already pastors may attend.
