Art of Pastoring I COURSE DESCRIPTION The Art of Pastoring I is a week long residential program designed to introduce priests preparing for their first pastorate with an overview of the pastoring role. The course introduces priests to leadership in the areas of teaching/preaching pastoral care, liturgy, social outreach and administration. Throughout the week, presentations introduce each area. The new pastor is guided into the initial stages of planning for his pastorate. He is also introduced to the areas of ministry he will now need to oversee. Faculty of the course are drawn from bishops and priests who are themselves experienced pastors. Specialist input comes from the faculty of Mundelein Seminary and the agencies of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center. The course is offered every Spring at the Conference Center of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake. It is required of all first-time pastors. Any pastor is welcome to attend for his own enrichment. A priest may register for the course as part of his discernment in applying for a pastorate or after he has been appointed.
