The Certificate
of Studies in Catechetical Leadership
What is
the Certificate of Studies in Catechetical Leadership?
It’s a program
of eight theological courses and five ministerial courses that provide
participants with the academic background and pastoral skills for catechetical
leadership in parishes and Catholic schools.
How
often are classes held?
Once a week for
two hours in the evenings over the course of eight weeks approximately.
In the summer,
courses may be held during the day for approximately three hours per session.
Where
are classes held?
There are three
sites to choose from. In the north,
there is University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary.
Gordon Tech College Prep is the central location and St. Xavier’s Chicago
main campus is the south site.
What
theological courses are required?
Old Testament,
New Testament, Christology, Church History, Sacramental Theology, Liturgy,
Spirituality & Prayer, Catholic Morality, Ecclesiology.
What
ministerial courses are required?
Human
Psychology, Faith and Moral Development
Foundations for
Catechesis Religious Education, Learning and Curriculum Development
Religion
Curriculum of the Archdiocese

Each class
costs $150. The parish or school and the candidate usually share the tuition.
