Located on 800 acres of wooded land including a 200 acre lake, the site for the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary was chosen by Cardinal George Mundelein (1872-1939) for its natural beauty and peaceful location. Students enjoy hiking, boating and fishing, while the culturally rich downtowns of Chicago and Milwaukee remain easily accessible by car and train.

The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception  is the home of the Institute's liturgical life. Modeled on an 18th-century Congregational Church in Old Lyme, Connecticut, the chapel has a splendid interior and excellent musical acoustics. The Liturgical Institute shares the University's Feehan Memorial Library which is modeled on the Barberini Palace Library in Rome. The library is noted for strengths in the fields of systematic theology, patristics, and church history, and has recently been improved by the completion of the McEssy Theological Resource Center, the first building added to the campus since 1934. By combining the library's own holdings with the interlibrary loan system of the Association of Chicago Theological Schools, an ecumenical consortium of ten seminaries, students have access to two million books and five thousand periodical titles.

A gymnasium with facilities for basketball, racquetball, handball, and indoor swimming is available to the University community, as are courts for soccer, baseball, and tennis. An eighteen-hole golf course is available on a limited basis without charge to students and faculty. A two and one half mile private road rings Saint Mary's Lake and provides an excellent venue for jogging and hiking.

Room and board facilities, including a single room with private bathroom, are available for single students. Rooms are air-conditioned for the summer quarters. A common room with full kitchen facilities is also available for student use. Full meal services are available to on-campus residents. Partial meal plans are available to off-campus students.
