Sacred Music RetreatA Guided Retreat for Church Musicians June 21st to June 26th, 2009
USML Conference Center, Mundelein, IL The Liturgical Institute proudly presents its fourth annual spiritual retreat for church musicians. Intended to combine theological and practical aspects of church music with prayer and meditation, the retreat takes place on the beautiful campus of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary just outside of Chicago. Experienced church musician Fr. John-Mark Missio will lead spiritual conferences on the theme "Faith flows from Alleluia," a meditative journey through the Sequences that extend the Gospel Acclamation in significant moments in the Church’s year. "How fitting it is," he writes, "that the source of these poetic expositions of faith is found not only in the syllables of an acclamation of joy, but ultimately is found in the movement of the heart towards the Word of God." Participants will listen to and sing the Sequences, both in their original chant forms and in settings from across the centuries. Prayerful silence will also be used to lead retreatants into a deeper appreciation of the joy of acclaiming the Word of God. Each day includes spiritual conferences, sung morning, midday and evening prayer, rehearsal for a retreat schola to sing at the Solemn Mass for Ss. Peter and Paul, free time for prayer, and confession and spiritual direction if desired. Don't miss this rare opportunity to pray, learn, rest and recharge for your music ministry!
