stewardship
Help us help the men in formation! Become an IDS steward!
The Institute for Diaconal Studies (IDS) invites all of the faithful of the Archdiocese of Chicago to pray for the dedicated men, and their wives, currently in formation as well as those discerning joining the program. Prayer is the first—and most vital—aspect of Christian stewardship. IDS also encourages everyone to prayerfully consider their personal role in being a steward and contributing to the ongoing success of individual aspirants or candidates and the formation program.
Candidates are also invited to become stewards who recognize their giftedness and respond to God’s invitation.
Stewardship is a way of life - a way of thanking God for all blessings by returning a generous portion of time, talent and treasure. Stewardship engenders a spirituality that deepens our relationship with the Lord and involves intentional, planned and proportionate giving of our time, talent and treasure.
Our first responsibility is to take care of our own needs and the needs of our families – not necessarily all our wants. In looking at what we need versus what we want, we end up making choices that place material things and money in their proper perspective.
Stewardship is based on an individual’s need to give, not on the Church’s need to receive. Stewardship is based on the spiritual principles of the Old Testament and the New Testament. Stewardship is not limited to the Church. Many people give some of their time and talent as volunteers to community agencies in addition to volunteering in their parish. Stewardship is a way of life based on spiritual principles.
IDS encourages all candidates, the ordained community and the faithful of the Archdiocese to a life of prayer – prayer for families, neighborhoods, workplaces – prayer and support for the global Catholic Christian community.
