Stewardship
Help us help the men in formation!
The Deacon Formation Program (DFP) invites the faithful of the Archdiocese of Chicago to pray for the dedicated men, and their wives, currently in formation as well as those discerning joining the program. Prayer is the first—and most vital—aspect of Christian stewardship. The DFP also encourages all of the faithful to prayerfully consider their personal role in being a steward and contributing to the ongoing success of the formation program.
Candidates in the Deacon Formation Program are also invited to become stewards who recognize their giftedness and respond to God’s invitation. Stewardship is a way of life - a way of thanking God for all blessings by returning a generous portion of time, talent and treasure. Stewardship engenders a spirituality that deepens our relationship with the Lord and involves intentional, planned and proportionate giving of our time, talent and treasure.
Our first responsibility is to take care of our own needs and the needs of our families – not necessarily all our wants. In looking at what we need versus what we want, we end up making choices that place material things and money in their proper perspective.
Stewardship is based on an individual’s need to give, not on the Church’s need to receive. Stewardship is based on the spiritual principles of the Old Testament and the New Testament. Stewardship is not limited to the Church. Many people give some of their time and talent as volunteers to community agencies in addition to volunteering in their parish. Stewardship is a way of life based on spiritual principles.
We encourage all candidates, the ordained community and the Archdiocese to a life of prayer – prayer for families, neighborhoods, workplaces – for the global Catholic Christian community. We encourage all to support the good work of the Deacon Formation Program by giving from your want and not your excess - financial support that is seriously considered and generously offered.
The Archdiocese of Chicago encourages helpful support of all those preparing for ordained ministry. Help us today. Become a steward of the Deacon Formation Program.
